Roma Genocide Remembrance
August 2nd is the Day of Remembrance of the Sinti and Roma Genocide. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the liquidation of the Zigeunerfamilienlager (“Gypsy Family Camp”) of Auschwitz II-Birkenau, during which almost 3,000 Roma children and adults were killed in gas chambers.

70 years ago today, on July 23,, 1944 Soviet troops liberated the death camp Majdanek. Ten months earlier, on September 17, 1943 Roz Jacobs’ grandfather, Ephraim Sznaiderman was murdered there.

We just found out that The Memory Project exhibit, film and educational programs will open next week in Skarzysko-Kamienna, which is where Anna met the Jack Jacobs, the man she would marry after the war.

Nussin and Rose
Earlier this month a dear friend of the Jacobs family Nat Eisen (Nussin to us) passed away. Nussin survived the Holocaust with his family by fleeing to Russia. Rose, his wonderful wife was from Wloclawek, Anna Jacobs’ home town.
