Remembrance Portraits from Skarzysko
In May 2014, The Memory Project exhibit and workshops launched at the City Cultural Center in Skarzysko-Kamienna, Poland. That is the town where Anna Jacobs, the Holocaust survivor whose story is told in The Memory Project exhibit was imprisoned in a forced labor camp during the Holocaust. She worked in the Hasag ammunition factory. According to Yad Vashem, 25,000-30,000 Jews were brought to Skarzysko and between 18,000 and 23,000 perished there. So it is very meaningful that the people of Skarzysko today are learning what happened in their city and connecting on a personal level to some of the Jewish people who were imprisoned and killed during the Holocaust. Visit the photo gallery to see youth and adults engaged in remembrance and art-making.
