This month we are featuring a beautiful portrait of Aleksander Kuliseiwicz. It was created by artist Jenny B. at a wonderful and moving workshop we held at the Holocaust, Genocide & Interfaith Education Center at Manhattan College. What was interesting or surprising in what you experienced today?
It was interesting to see portraits of all kinds of people from many different backgrounds and to hear stories about them.

What touched your hearts the most?
Hearing the numerous stories of grandparents, parents, siblings, and their life-changing experiences.

What do you think you will remember?
One of the things I will definitely remember is that every individual that fell victim to the Holocaust had his or her own remarkable story.

What has this experience contributed to your thoughts about your place in history?
This taught me that history is not just something that is in the past. It is ongoing and we are in the middle of creating new history.

While drawing Aleksander, a stranger, I feel like I got to know a part of him.
