February 2022 Portrait of the Month — Henry Maslowicz
Henry Maslowicz
In this tender portrait of Henry Maslowicz, his face is full of light and determination as it emerges from the shadows. As a young boy, Henry had to live in hiding to survive the Holocaust. He was later reunited with his father in Israel. This portrait was submitted by a wonderful Florida teacher named Debbie McHenry, who attended a Memory Project Productions professional development program in 2015. Ms McHenry has been using the project with her students ever since. Year after year, her students have felt connected to Henry (and to others) through the process of drawing their portraits and learning their stories. We are always grateful to receive and share the portraits and hear about how this program is touching students in schools and communities around the country. Check out some of the other portraits on Ms. McHenry’s Community page.
